Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be online registration this year?

Yes, returning players and new players to our League will all register online. Registration announcements will be made at our schools, in the community, and on this website. Our online registration vendor is Sports Connect, and parents can access registration from our site once registration opens.

Does LLL provide financial assistance to families that cannot afford registration?

Lafayette Little League is ready and willing to help any family in financial need. No age-appropriate player will be denied entry due to financial hardship. Please contact our league via email, and our President will reach out directly to arrange assistance. All communication is kept strictly confidential.

Do all 12-year-olds play in the Majors Division?

Yes. All 12-year-olds will be drafted to a Majors team. The only exceptions occur when parents believe their player’s best interests are not served by participating in the Majors division. Such requests require approval from the Board and League President. Players who are LL-13 or older may participate in Juniors (A/B) divisions.

Is it true that 12-year-olds cannot pitch in the AAA Division?

Yes. Little League International rules prohibit 12-year-olds from pitching in the AAA Division.

How are the number of teams per division determined?

The number of teams is determined by the number of players in each age group and field availability. The Majors Division is capped at 10 teams per National Little League rules.

Why doesn’t LLL accept more players and teams into the Majors Division?

National Little League rules limit the Majors Division to a maximum of 10 teams.

What are the different divisions? Are they by age or talent?

Players are placed based on age and ability.

  • Advanced Baseball (Juniors): 13–14 years old
  • Majors: 10–12 years old (age-based for 12s, ability-based for 11s and some 10s)
  • AAA: 9–11 years old (drafted based on ability)
  • AA: 8–10 years old (drafted based on ability)
  • Farm: 7–9 years old (age and experience based)
  • Instructional: 6–7 years old (age based)

How do evaluations and the draft work?

Players are evaluated by managers and division VPs. After evaluations, an open draft is held. Returning players are selected first in the mandatory pool, followed by new players in the free-agent pool.

How does the "brother rule" work? Can siblings play in the same division?

In divisions AA through Juniors, managers draft players. If a manager feels both siblings qualify to play in the same division, they may select them back-to-back. If not, one sibling may be returned to the general player pool.

How do playoffs work once the regular season is complete?

Playoffs are held for Juniors (A/B), Majors, AAA, and AA divisions. All teams participate in a double-elimination bracket, with a consolation bracket to add more games. Division winners advance to the District 4 Tournament of Champions.

What post-season opportunities are available for players at different age groups?

Post-season play includes All-Star teams (LL9–LL12) and Gold Teams (LL13–LL14), as well as summer teams when enough players and coaches are available. See our All Stars page for details on selection and time commitments.
